Jamila khair- The Chairman of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee Yousef Al Shawarbeh, visited the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), where he met Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Shadi Ramzi Al Majali, with the attendance of Commissioner of Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Dr. Mutasem Abdallah Hindawi.
During the meeting, Al Shawarbeh was briefed on ASEZA's strategic plan for the years 2024-2028, and the comprehensive plan for the city 2024-2040, in addition to reviewing the indicators of Aqaba rapid growth in economic, tourism and service sectors, due to the implemented projects and the clear vision pursued by the authority to enhance the position of Aqaba as a modern city that attracts investment and sustainable development.
Al Majali reviewed ASEZA's achievements over the past years, and the remarkable growth in various sectors, stressing on its efforts in developing infrastructure and modernising the public services system, which contributes at improving the quality of life and attracting more quality investments.
Both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint work between GAM and ASEZA in all areas of joint municipal work, especially in the areas of environment, waste management, information technology, and smart cities.
Al Shawarbeh Visited the Data City in Aqaba, “Aqaba Digital Hub - ADH”, which is an advanced digital infrastructure project aimed at promoting digital transformation in the region, where he was briefed on its work and the services it provides to Jordan and other Arab countries.
He also visited the Aqaba Development Company, where he met its CEO, Hussein Al Safadi, and discussed joint work opportunities between the GAM and the company, especially in the areas of investment environment.
Al Shawarbeh was briefed on the company’s projects and plans that aim at unleashing the economic potential and advantages of Aqaba through attracting private sector investments and transforming Aqaba into a gateway for business, entertainment, tourism, logistics and industry.
Al Shawarbeh was also briefed on the 3D Printing Coral Reefs in Aqaba, which is part of a Jordanian project launched in June 2025 to restore and protect coral reefs. This project falls within the “Blue Economy” initiatives, announced by His Majesty King Abdullah II, which aims at using innovative technology to save damaged coral reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba and provide them with new infrastructure.
On the sidelines of the visit, Al Shawarbeh visited the solid waste landfill in Aqaba, where he was briefed on its work mechanism and services
Al Shawarbeh was accompanied on his visit to Aqaba Governorate by the Executive Director of Information Technology, Sultan Al Kharabsheh, the Executive Director of Smart Cities, Engineer Lubna Al Huneiti, and the Director of the Environmental Studies Department, Engineer Basem Al Hawamdeh.
