Amman Urban Observatory

About AUO:

AUO is one of GAM departments activated in 2008 to represent the city in a comprehensive framework by collecting and analyzing data and information to produce Amman urban indicators, to enable planners, developers and scholars in all sectors to make the necessary decisions, monitoring and evaluating progress towards achieving local and global goals.

AUO Tasks:
  1. Producing Amman urban indicators values based on global agendas (UN-habitat, World Council on City Data –WCCD, Ukid, …).
  2. Preparing analytical studies and reports on city development and measuring performance indicators of SDGs through analyzing current situation and formulating plans for implementation of projects in all aspects (environmental, social, work, and infrastructure, …) to ensure the SDGs localizing in Amman city.
  3. Producing a statistical reports including (Amman's urban indicators values, institutional indicators and benchmarking).
  4. Providing decision-makers, planners, developers and scholars with the statistical analytical reports in a scientific approach in implementing projects and planning for the city.
  5. Collecting data from AUO partners through observatory stakeholders.
  6. Conducting field surveys through AUO social and economic researchers, to identify problems in all urban aspects and providing decision-makers and planners with urban indicators.
  7. Designing the city database appropriate software, which is characterized with a high level of security.
  8. Management the Institutional Achieving System IAS.
  9. Cooperating with all local and international authorities in obtaining accurate and up-to-date data about Amman city.
  10. Producing local indicators that reflect the specificity of Amman city.
