Saqf Al-sail maintenance project
Duration of the project: The Greater Amman Municipality has initiated the implementation of this project by issuing a bid in three phases, extending from 2022 to 2023, at an approximate cost of two million six hundred thousand dinars..
Saqf Al-Sail It is part of downtown Amman, which was previously the Amman Stream, which extends from the Ras Al-Ain area in the city of Amman to the city of Zarqa, where it is called the Zarqa Stream.
The Amman Stream was one of the two main passages that crossed Amman during the Roman era. Where it was passing in front of the Roman Theater in the center of Amman. Where that area was characterized by a sophisticated Roman sewage system in those days.
And due to the drying up of its waters decades ago and the large increase in the population, the ceiling of the torrent was done by making a box culvert.
Due to the age of this culvert, which has been implemented for more than half a century, the Greater Amman Municipality carries out periodic maintenance of this culvert, which includes the maintenance of bases, walls, column and ceilings.
Because of the phenomenon of climate change and the floods it caused, the Greater Amman Municipality conducted studies to expand the culvert, which extends for a length of 700 meters, a width of 16 meters, and a height of less than two meters. These studies concluded that it is possible to increase the height of the culvert to become more than 3 meters high.
Work is currently underway within the third phase, which is nearing completion, and the value of the works is estimated at seven hundred and ninety thousand dinars, with a length of 280 meters. It includes the works of increasing the culvert section by increasing the height, making new foundations, and maintaining the walls, ceilings and columns. This phase is expected to be completed in June 2023.
