Amman Mayor Receives the Governor of Wasit Governorate in Iraq

Jamila Khair- Amman Mayor Yousef Al Shawarbeh, received the Governor of Wasit Governorate in Iraq, Muhammad Jamil Al Mayahi, and the accompanying  Provincial Council members delegation, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation. 

The mayor and Wasit Governor stressed on the deep historical relationship and the distinguished fraternal status that links Jordan and Iraq, and the necessity of exploiting the visit in enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences between the municipality and the governorate. 

Al Shawarbeh, in his name, the members of GAM Council and citizens of Amman, welcomed Wasit Governor and the guest delegation, and stressed that Iraq and Jordan have always shared a fraternal historical status that is a source of honour and pride. 

He confirmed the municipality’s readiness to cooperate with Wasit Governorate in the fields of municipal work, in which the municipality has come a long way, contributing to serving the city and its residents, especially the infrastructure system, electronic transformation, city planning, waste management, and public transportation. 

The Mayor presented the most prominent GAM achievements that came under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, including the launch of GAM’s strategy 2022-2026, and services to strengthen the public transportation system in the city through the Amman Bus and the BRT.

For his part, Wasit Governor said "We take advantage of the opportunity of our presence today coinciding with the independence of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to convey our highest congratulations and blessings to His Majesty King Abdullah II and to the Jordanian family on the occasion of independence, wishing further progress and prosperity for Jordan." 

He added that our presence as a government team for Wasit Governorate came to review the progress that the city of Amman is witnessing in various fields, and to benefit from the municipality’s experiences in the fields of waste treatment and management, enhancing green spaces, the smart city, and electronic transformation services.
