Amman and Chicago Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Sister Cities Partnership

Jamila Khair -  Amman Mayor Yousef Al Shawarbeh, said that the strong relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the United States of America, which extend for more than 75 years, are based on friendship and mutual cooperation, and aim at achieving security and prosperity in the region.

This came during Al Shawarbeh and the accompanying delegation's visit to Chicago, and signing the agreement to reaffirm the joint declaration of sister cities between Amman and Chicago with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Sister Cities Partnership between the two cities.

Al Shawarbeh added that since the declaration of Chicago-Amman sister-city relationship in 2004, the cooperation has led to successful qualitative projects and exchanges of expertise and visits between business leaders, educational delegations, and artistic and cultural teams, in addition to economic cooperation and joint development, which positively affected the common benefit of the two cities. He stressed on the importance of joint collaboration in  facing common challenges and building a brighter future.

He praised the prominent role of the World Business Chicago, and Chicago Sister Cities International, in strengthening relations and facilitating programs and communications.

The agreement aims at enhancing ties and exchanging best practices and strategic partnerships between the two cities in the fields of encouraging trade and investment exchange and innovation, supporting cooperative efforts, companies, exchanges in the field of tourism, arts and culture, youth entrepreneurship, educational exchange, medical and humanitarian initiatives, in addition to exchanging best municipal practices.

On the sidelines of the visit, Al Shawarbeh and the accompanying delegation met the head of Chicago Committee, with the attendance of the CEO of the World Business Council, where he confirmed the formation of a joint committee that includes representatives from the sectors of business, innovation, information technology, communications, education, medicine, and culture, to identify opportunities, initiatives and enhance cooperation and exchanges, in addition to expanding areas of cooperation to include tourism, arts and culture, sports, education, trade and investment, entrepreneurship and business, and medical and humanitarian fields.

Al Shawarbeh also made a number of tours and had many meetings to learn about Chicago’s experiences in the fields of technology, innovation, smart cities, MHUB, MXD, business incubators, and water solutions.

The ceremony, which was organised by the Chicago Committee, Chicago Sister Cities International, and the World Business Council Chicago, was attended by members of the Jordanian community and representatives of Chicago city government and the business sector.
