Amman is very clean and more developed than many of the cities in the region and in the world, Eng. Jaime Lerner, former Mayor of Curtitba - Brazil said this week.He stressed on the need to focus on the “ sustainable cities” during a lecture he delivered to audiences form the Greater Amman Municipality and Amman residents, noting that the problem rises from these cities as they produce 75 per cent of the total carbon in the air.
He called on concentrating on the “multiuse of same location” strategy to implement plans in any city’s development plan.
“a quick establishment of a fast transportation system would help very much the sustainability of any city,” Lerner noted.
Prince Raed Ben Zaid and Prince Mireid Ben Raed attended the lecture along with the Amman mayor Eng. Omar Maani who introduced the lecturers to the audience calling on them to focus on the parts where “we can benefit from Lerner’s expertise and knowledge,”.
Lerner is a professor in Urban Engineering and development from Fedrel University in Barna State in 1964, he holds several medals and certificates of honor on top of them was the UN Environment Program in 1990, The International Institute for preserving Energy present in 1990, “World technology” present for the transportation system in the UK National Museum for Sciences and Industries in 2001. He also was Mayor of Curitiba in Brazil 1971-1975, 1979-1983 and 1989-1992 and then ha became Governor of Barna State in 1994 and 1998.
He was elected as President of the International Engineering Association in 2002, and worked as a professor in several universities in the world.
