Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and Naples Municipality of Italy recently signed a cooperation and friendship memorandum to promote the mutual cooperation links between the two cities in all fields.
Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, and the Culture Official in the Municipality of Naples, Counselor Nicola Oddati, on behalf of the Mayor of Naples, signed the agreement in the presence of Mayor of Forio and president of the International Coordination of the Mediterranean Local Entities (CIELM), Mr. Francesco Regine, and Mayor of Ercolano, Mr. Gaetano Daniele.
Both sides ascertained their interest in promoting relationships between the two cities in all municipal service matters, including cultural, economical, and tourist affairs which shall eventually serve the city and the citizens.
Omar Maani and Oddati declared that the cooperation memorandum will enhance knowledge and develop the exchange of experiences in economic development, education, technology, and other cultural, sport, and tourist matters; such an improvement can be accomplished by the participation of all civil society sectors.
Maani announced the goal of Amman city, which is to solicit nomination to be the host of the International Culture Forum in 2016, noting that Naples city will host this event in 2013.
He said that the Forum, held once every three years, aims at exchanging experiences in the cultural affairs among the cities of the world.
Dr. Nicola Oddati commended Amman city which is renowned for its history and its position as a center of different cultures and civilizations, he also indicated that signing the understanding memorandum between the two cities will contribute to building a strong base for cooperation and exchange of experiences in different domains among the new generations.
The agreement reflects the interest of both parties in conserving solid friendship and enhances contact methods and visits of the municipality cadres and the civil society corporations between the two cities, which will eventually promote humane, social and cultural relationships among the two nations, and will achieve economical, social and cultural development for the Mediterranean countries.
The agreement aims at reaching successful and open exchange of information related to strategic planning, proper administration practices, and environment development programs, as well as promoting the usage of alternative resources of energy.
Mayor of Bethlehem, Victor Batarseh, Manager of Amman City, Ammar Gharaybeh, and City Deputy Manager for Cultural, Social, and Sports Affairs, Eng. Haitham Jweinat, attended the signing ceremony.
This agreement falls within the framework of enhancing international relationships, especially the relations among cities in the Mediterranean basin; it also aims at opening opportunities of direct knowledge methods through the institutional services; it is worth noting that these services contribute to following up on the legal affairs of the CIELM of which Amman and Naples are members.
