The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has completed 287,316 square meters of the Sahen Amman (Amman Basin) painting project this year, which included 56 locations, at a cost of JOD 350 thousand.
It is worth mentioning that the completed area of the project, since its launch in 2006 to date, is now estimated at 1 million 850 thousand square meters.
Work is currently underway on painting buildings, houses, and fences in Basman region, at the beginning of Jordan Street, in addition to King Ali Bin Al Hussein Street and Al Marbat Housing, and Jabal Al Joufeh, Jabal Al Ashrafieh, and Hay Al Tafaileh in Al Yarmouk and Al Madeena districts.
Additionally, work is also in progress in Marka district, opposite the Urban Development Housing, and Hay Al Qesieh in Badr district, as well as several locations dispersed throughout Ras Al Ein district.
The project includes painting buildings and fences, implementing maintenance works, and renovating retaining walls, pavements, and stairs, in addition to planting trees on hilly inclines, in coordination between the pertinent GAM departments.
Furthermore, GAM is implementing this project, which also includes launching environmental awareness campaigns about the deserted land amongst residential areas, without any cost to residents.
On another level, GAM has completed 121,822 square meters of the painting, renovating, and maintenance work on the Capital’s schools, as part of the “Madrasati” initiative that was launched by H.M. Queen Rania Al Abdullah last year. This worthy initiative aims at providing better educational environments, in participation with local communities, public and private sector organizations, and non-profit civil organizations.
GAM’s contribution to the “Madrasati” initiative was in painting school buildings and fences for 55 schools, dispersed throughout 16 districts, in addition to maintenance and renovation works on other schools in several GAM districts.
As part of the Sahen Amman project, GAM is using earth colors that suit the nature of Amman, that are resistant to weather conditions and water-based mould, and that are of the highest quality, specifications, and durability; these paints are also resistant to cracks, alkaline, and UV rays, and can be washed.
The project aims at enhancing the Capital’s downtown area as a touristic site that reflects its historical and urban nature, while still maintaining the region’s aestheticism and cultural authenticity, through encouraging residential participation to play an effective role in improving the environment.
It is important to note that the project extends from Shah Walyi Allah Street in Zahran district, to King Abdullah the Second Street in Marka district, encompassing several districts, namely, Al Madeena, Zahran, Badr, Ras Al Ein, Al Yarmouk, Al Nasr, Marka, and Basman. These districts are of great importance as they represent the beginnings of Amman, and are considered tourist attractions, because they include key historical sites, such as the Roman Amphitheater, Jabal Al Qal’a, and Sabeel Al Houriat.
