Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, stressed that the public transportation sector in Amman City will boast a radical change for the next 4 years; citizens will experience this development in all the elements of public transportation system whether using private cars, buses, sidewalks, and modern parking lots.
This announcement was raised during the session of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Council, in which the members were briefed by the Executive Director of Transport on the rapid shuttling buses project which will connect Al Mahata (station) complex with Sweileh region, passing through the University of Jordan, and implementation will soon commence from the University of Jordan towards Sweileh region.
GAM Council members commended the project, considering approving the project as an achievement for the current Council to serve the citizens, which shall effectively reduce traffic jams, and keep pace with the City’s development and growth.
The member, Abdallah Abu Zaid, gave a speech, on behalf of some elected members, commending the efforts of the Mayor to serve Amman, and the accomplished municipal projects which positively prompted the prosperity and development to Amman City.
The Council approved to name one of Amman streets after the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, as well as naming others after several national figures such as the late, Mohammed S’oud Al Qadi, Kaseb Sfoug Al Jazi, and the Jordanian press dean, Mahmoud Al Kayed, and martyrs of the Jordanian army.
The Council also approved the acquisition and properties committee’s decision, issued to terminate the contract of allocating pieces of land for GAM employees club, and to consider the current premises an ownership of GAM’s, so that all GAM employees can use these facilities.
