GAM Holds Road Safety Seminar Next Sunday

With the participation of public and private school students, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) will hold a seminar under the banner “Road Safety…and Fursan Al Taghyeer (the Knights of Change)”, on the occasion of World Traffic Day and Arab Traffic Week. The seminar is to be inaugurated by the Deputy Mayor of Amman, Engineer Amer Al Basheer, and will focus on topics relating to road safety and traffic accidents, as well as traffic awareness oriented towards school children. Students participating in the seminar will direct dialogues and discussions about spreading traffic culture to children. They will also present the seminar’s working papers which deal with different aspects of road safety. The Director of the Parks and Gardens Department, Eng. Nebal Qattan, stressed that the seminar aims at spreading traffic awareness in the local community, especially among children, as part of the year-round activities organized by the Municipality’s Traffic Gardens. Qattan also indicated that the Traffic Gardens which open to visitors at a nominal fee plans to launch the “Tang” family festival in June and the “Ma’an (Together)” festival for road safety in July. The Head of the Traffic Gardens Department, Eng. Muna Al ‘Adayla, explained that the seminar comprised working papers dealing with different topics, that were distributed among public and private school students a few months ago. The best of these papers were selected by the seminar’s scientific committee, namely the Traffic Department, the Traffic Institute, the Ministry of Education, and Hikmat Road Safety, as well as the Greater Amman Municipality. The seminar, over 3 sessions, tackled various safety topics, namely, “The Role of Traffic Gardens in Traffic Awareness”, “Bridges, Pedestrian Tunnels, Pavements, and Passages and Their Importance for Pedestrians”, “The Role of Students in Traffic Awareness and Road Safety”, “Student Transportation Safety”, “The Role of Parent Councils in Traffic Awareness”, and “The Role of Environmental Violations in Car Accidents”.
