The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Saturday said it is rehabilitating sidewalks in both Zahran and Wadi Sair.
As part of the second phase of the “ Returning Sidewalks to the Citizens”, the project includes relocating 5,000 trees from the sidewalks of Abdoun and Um Udayna streets, in Zahran district, and from Sweifieh, Jandaweel and Diar streets, in Wadi Sair district.
GAM has completed the rehabilitation work in the Princess Rahma, Princess Zain, Abdelrazaq Hyasat, Princess Badeia streets in Tla Elali, in addition to Kamil Uraqat street in Jbeiha, Director of the Rehabilitation of Sidewalks project in GAM Eng. Hisham Omari said.
He noted that 4,200 trees relocated from these streets to Queen Alia International Airport , Projects of combating desertification and to King Hussein National Parks.
As part of the GAM’s interest to involving citizens in the project, it would distribute flyers and posters explaining the project and its objectives to increase the citizens’ awareness in this regard. The message is to make the people feel as “partners in such initiatives”
More than 2,128 accident of running-over occur annually, according to the Traffic Police statistics, resulting in 115 causalities and 2,143 injuries, the major cause of such accidents is “no space for pedestrians to walk on,”.
GAM started its project of rehabilitating the side-walks in several parts of the capital, to provide space for the pedestrians in the sidewalks, to improve the infrastructure in the city and to enhance the beauty of the city in general.
