Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, and the Mayor of Astana city, the capital of Kazakhstan, Imangali Tasmagambetov, recently unveiled a board naming an “Ammani” street after the President of Kazakhstan Republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The street which was named after the Kazakh President connects Al shaheed (the Martyr) Street and Yajouz Street in Tareq region (Al Khazneh neighborhood).
Eng. Maani said during the celebration held for this occasion, “Giving the Street this name comes upon the directions of His Majesty King Abdullah II, may God protect and keep him”.
He added that this step is also the outcome of the cooperation between Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), and Astana city, which led to a joint work program for the years 2010 and 2011 covering the domains: planning and organizing cities, construction, urban development, management, public parks, and pedestrian’s roads, in addition to sports training programs.
On his part, Mr. Tasmagambetov commended Jordan’s role in the Middle East, under the leadership of the King, now that Jordan is a major country of the region, and enjoys a great interest by the international community, especially in the political domain.
Astana Mayor expressed his gratitude to the leadership, government, and people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for naming one of Amman’s streets after the Kazakhstani president, which reflects the strong relations between the two nations since 18 years ago.
The Kazakh Ambassador to Amman, Mr. Bulat Sarsenbayev, attended the ceremony, in addition to a high ranking delegation from Kazakhstan accompanying the Mayor of Astana, and officials form GAM.
The Kazakh delegation visited Jabal Al Qalaa (Mount of the Citadel) which GAM renewed and rehabilitated to make it a touristic site for all the visitors, to promote interior inbound and outbound tourism, to create a breathing space for the residents of Amman who shall feel the bonds with old Amman, and to deepen the historical aspect along the years reaching to the contemporary Amman.
It is important to note that GAM and Astana Municipality signed last year an agreement of joint work between the two cities, to exchange experiences and information about the municipal work, as well as holding commercial activities meetings, touristic events, and exhibitions.
