GAM Opens National Hussein Parks in Wadi Al Qitar with Many Citizens Attending

Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) inaugurated National Hussein Parks in the presence of many citizens to promenade and spend a good time in the location after the completion of the first phase preparation process, noting that the Parks have already started to receive visitors. Director of Parks Department at GAM, Engineer Nibal Qattan, said that GAM finished the infrastructural works for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd phases, and the location is provided with the necessary facilities and accessories, as playing grounds, lighting, and roads. He clarified that the remaining phases are waiting the growth of trees to receive more and more guests. GAM founded the National Hussein Parks in Wadi Al Qitar, west of Amman, near Salhyiet Al Abed neighborhood, on a piece of land with a space area of 6500 dunnums, and an implementation period of 12 phases, during which GAM planted about half a million trees. He stressed that such parks will provide recreational facilities for the residents of that area, and they will also contain environmental and visual pollution, prevent desertification, and increase the green space. Engineer Qattan stated that the Parks Department’s projects reflect the interest in creating an environment free of contamination, by planting the biggest number possible of trees, organized in different stages, highlighting that they are following up on the previously inaugurated locations, and watching the trees growth which can be affected by weather changes and other conditions. He revealed that GAM set up a plan to remove some stone crusher plants near Wadi Al Qitar area, apply agricultural soils instead, and plant the place to convert it into parks that beautify the area and serve the inhabitants. He further pointed out that the debris site in Al Baida region will be planted on a space area of 600 dunnums, 250 of which have already been planted, and 1086 dunnums more in Al Madounah area will be planted near Al Ghabawi dumpsite. The space area of planted locations of GAM reaches to 9571 thousand dunnums. The planting process started in 1985 at Methqal Al Fayez park (Amman National Park), with 11360 trees in a space area of 1500 dunnums, followed by the Forest of King of Bahrain which was planted with 11904 trees, over 1400 dunnums; and later on, GAM executed more projects and commenced establishing AL Hussein Forest project in 1997. Al Qattan added that the planted spaces in Amman doubled within the last 15 years, from 3000 dunnnums, to 9000 dunnums nowadays.
