The Greater Amman Municipality ( GAM ) has recently qualified the playground of Khreibet Al Souq Boys School as per an agreement signed with the Ministry of Education for qualifying and preparing 27 school yards in various regions of the Municipality to make them appropriate for school students. According to the Deputy City Manager for Cultural, Social, and Sports Affairs, Engineer Haitham Jweinat, GAM has rehabilitated the school playground for the purpose of providing sports playgrounds which should back up and activate the sports movement, and eventually serve the rising generations and enhance their talents to take advantage of them in the future. Jweinat drew the attention to the fact that work is underway to rehabilitate the playground of Abu Huraira Boys Secondary School in Hay Nazzal, pointing out that GAM will provide sports supervisors from the Sports Facilities Department to follow up on activating a sports program after working hours and during holidays, especially the summer holiday, in cooperation with the local community and the targeted schools sports supervisors. The GAM official maintained that the yards and playgrounds, being qualified, shall be put at the disposal of the local community after working hours through sports activities and championships targeting all age brackets in the neighborhoods embracing the schools. GAM is executing the project in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, and Jordan Career Education Foundation (JCEF) which is supported by USAID, within a series of back up programs and partnership and cooperation activation, with the private and public sector institutions, and NGO’s for the purpose of conducting sports and recreational programs. It is worth noting that the Director of USAID, Mr. Jay Knott, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Development, Mohammad Al Khasawneh visited the School to inspect the yard that GAM has already executed.
