Within the framework of the recently launched “Invest in Youth” program, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) signed a training agreement with the Hashemite University (HU), the University of Jordan (UJ), Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), Al Balqa’ Applied University (BAU), and Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT).
The Agreement was signed by the Mayor of Amman, Engineer Omar Maani, on behalf of GAM, the President of HU, Professor Abdelrahim Al Hunaiti, UJ’s Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Bashar Abdelhadi, the Assistant to the President of JUST, Professor Ahed Al Wahadneh, the President of BAU, Professor Muneeb Al Saket, and the Assistant to the President of PSUT, Professor Wujdan Abu Al Haija’.
Commenting on this pioneering partnership, Eng. Omar Maani stated, “the Greater Amman Municipality training agreement will acquaint GAM with the skills, capabilities, modes of thought, and academic research of university students. This will allow the Municipality to efficiently assess and utilize promising talents to best serve the Capital.”
“GAM is especially interested in interacting with university students and, in the future, employing their academic and practical capacities in GAM,” he added.
Eng. Omar Maani pointed out that the Municipality’s training program aims at providing university students with an opportunity to acquire work experience and join the Jordanian work force.
On his part, Professor Abdelrahim Al Hunaiti, said, “GAM’s initiative comprises a healthy phenomenon, seriously reinforcing the importance of training for youth, through an exceptional program which prepares students and facilitates their entry into the work place.”
Professor Al Hunaiti explained the importance of the universities’ feedback in developing plans, indicating, at the same time, the value of investing in youth as the main driving force of economic and developmental revitalization.
GAM’s training program aims at enhancing the Municipality’s image and increasing competitiveness (establishing itself) as the basic and primary provider of educational experience for university students. The program also offers unique developmental and career skills and specifically-designed strategies to enable university students to leave a good impression on their employer, whatever the work field. Additionally, the program provides trainees with the necessary resources to advance and prepare for working within the local community.
The training program includes sought-after positions which benefit both educational institutions and their students.
According to the Agreement, which shall be valid for a year from the date of signing and automatically renewed with both parties’ consent, GAM will provide lists of the trainees who meet the requirements of academic training. The Agreement also stipulates that trainees must later qualify for a position based on the results of requisite exams during the program and interviews, with the understanding that GAM’s approval depends on the availability of training positions and the competitive acceptance scale.
