GAM To Build New Bazaar in Amman

Engineer Firas Kurdi, director of the Properties Department at Greater Amman Municipality, said that the municipality will establish a bazaar in Amman that will conform with its objectives in enhancing better living standards for Jordanians and provide job opportunities for the unemployed. GAM in the last few years has built a number of bazaar and popular markets around the capital, including the ones in Wadi El-Sir, Jabal Al-Hussein and Wihdat. Kurdi emphasized that GAM wants to tackle the random distribution of markets and vendors around the capital that hardly can be seized. The procedure also helps in enhancing the sanitary and healthy conditions for citizens who originally familiar with buying from open-air markets. Kurdi maintained that vendors will be asked to take part in the bazaar in a way to make their businesses legal and suitable for the public, noting that the low-income people in Amman will find it more appropriate for them to buy their goods from the bazaar. He said that GAM soon will open its fourth popular market in Al-Hashimi district, where it will include 66 shops distributed on two stories as well as the required healthy facilities and entertainment infrastructure. GAM also took hand on four lands for car parking lots. Sellers will be given the chance to rent shops at the market, unless there are specific conditions where GAM will handle them charitably. More than 50 sellers are currently renting their shops in the Wihdat and Al-Hussein markets for free. Kurdi said that each directorate will issue the license for sellers at the market it hosts, in cooperation with the concerned authorities. Licenses involve further inspection to make sure sellers will abide by the environmental and healthy stipulations.
