Greater Amman Municipality is currently working on accomplishing the new bus terminal at the area between Martyrs Street and Jordan Street. The new terminal will help in alleviating the levels of traffic congestion at the Abdali area in Amman. The Abdali bus terminal will be repositioned at the new terminal within the coming few weeks.
The project is located on an area of 29 dunums, and it is considered one of the most vital projects in the capital, in which GAM tries to solve the traffic problems and enhances the public transport in general.
According to its five-year strategy (2005 - 2009), GAM plans to develop the infrastructure around Amman and provide the best quality of municipal services on all aspects. The Media Center at GAM pointed out that the municipality is currently working in the second phase of the new project, which includes the building of parking lanes and setting the yards.
GAM has finished the first phase in March and it is expected to start the third one soon, by renovating the old building at the site to host the administration offices at the new bus terminal. The third phase also includes setting up the required facilities and services for those using the terminal in their daily traveling.
The new bus terminal will serve buses working on the way between the northern governorates and Amman. It will help in easing the pressure now resembles at the inner streets of the capital. The terminal will also serve the people living nearby.
