Greater Amman Municipality will use the solar energy in lighting up the Al-Shura Street and its surrounding area at Badr district. GAM has ended recently a feasibility study on this project, jointly with GAM concerned departments, King Abdullah II Center for Development, and the Renewable Energy Office at the University of Jordan.
Engineer Amer Attiyeh, director of the Quality and Follow-Up Department, said that GAM will install solar units at the area, since it is an experiment to replace the electric energy and minimize the operational costs. He said that once the project succeeds, it will be applied at other selected areas around the capital.
Attiyeh pointed that there is a trend to re-use the wastewater to irrigate the green areas, as part of GAM strategy to use all possible means in cutting expenses and expanding the green landscapes in Amman. The treated waste-water will be used in irrigating the areas at south Amman, Abu Nsair, Yarmouk Street, The Martyr s Street, and the Army Street.
He said that such usage of treated wastewater will help in fighting desertification and serves the national goals in protecting the environment and enhancing sanitary procedures and public safety. GAM is working closely on this project with the USAID, the US-based CDM for Treating Wastewater.
