Greater Amman Municipality confirmed that no new licenses are to be issued for any cafeteria that provides coffee for drivers and pedestrians on streets, saying that these stores violate licensing terms and conditions, since GAM issues licenses for cafeteria selling “sandwiches and beverages” not coffee.
GAM said that selling coffee in streets causes traffic jams and congestions, adding that these stores lack the hygiene conditions, violate streets and sidewalks, and allow child labor.
GAM affirmed that it receives many complaints daily from citizens regarding negative effects of stores selling coffee in streets.
Health and Vocational Control Department at GAM is conducting inspection campaign since the beginning of last week through which 20 of these stores were closed.
GAM formed a committee to study cafeterias’ applications for renewing their licenses, and make sure that they do not sell coffee and are committed to licensing terms and conditions.
