Jamila Khair- The Deputy Mayor Muhammad Rasmi Al Qaisi, as a representative of Amman Mayor, patronised launching the Municipality’s annual campaign, “Amman Beitna,” to reduce the phenomenon of throwing waste out of vehicle windows on the roads, from Faisal Square in Downtown.
The campaign, which was launched in partnership between GAM and Zain Jordan, aims at distributing paper waste bags designated for vehicles, to bring about a positive change in behaviour by dealing with waste inside vehicles and not throwing it out of the windows.
Al Qaisi stressed that maintaining the general appearance of the city is a shared responsibility between the Municipality’s cadres, including street sweepers and citizens, through a commitment not to throw waste from vehicle windows or in public places, and ensuring the continuity of these initiatives aimed at promoting civilised behaviour.
In turn, the Executive Director of the Media, Communication and Sustainability Management Department at Zain Company, Tariq Al Bitar, pointed out Zain’s keenness to strengthen its cooperation with the Amman Municipality within the framework of the strategic partnership extending between the two parties, pointing out the campaign is in alignment with the company’s goals and its strategy for environmental sustainability, which seeks to encourage the adoption of Environmentally friendly practices.
It is noteworthy that Amman Beitna campaign, launched by GAM in 2010, is an environmental initiative that seeks to deliver an important message to the people of Jordanian society to deal with the city and its facilities with a sense of responsibility and to ensure their cleanliness as private property of the citizen, in addition to being a continuation of GAM’s responsibility to raise awareness among citizens about preserving the cleanliness of the city and promoting the concepts of good citizenship towards the environment and reducing negative behaviours, such as the phenomenon of throwing waste from vehicles.
The campaign, which is considered a way to reduce traffic accidents and increase traffic awareness, will include distributing about 100,000 paper bags to vehicles according to a comprehensive practical plan in the capital’s areas, main squares, public transportation stations, and public facilities, in conjunction with the use of all available advertising means to raise awareness of the campaign’s objectives to achieve its goal.
The campaign's paper bags will be distributed in the 22 districts of the Amman Municipality, with the participation of members of the Municipality Council and directors of the relevant districts and departments.
Member of GAM council for Al Madina district, Ziad Al Harasis, and a number of directors of the relevant departments at GAM, participated in launching the campaign.
