Greater Amman Municipality and Deutsche Welle Sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Deutsche Welle (DW) to reinforce the basis of mutual cooperation between the GAM-run Hawa Amman Radio and DW Arabic Radio on professional and social goals. The MOU was signed by Mayor of Amman, Eng. Omar Maani and DW Director of Strategy, Marketing and Distribution Mr. Guido Baumhauer. It stipulates that the two parties will cooperate on developing joint content that enhances the coverage of stories on different topics, especially on that dealing with enhancing dialogue opportunities and understanding between the people of both regions. The two parties will also cooperate on creating content that deals with the Jordanian community in Germany and the environmental issues. Maani welcomed the signing of MOU with DW, noting it will pave way for fruitful cooperation that helps in enhancing the significant role of Hawa Amman Radio, and expanding its listener-ship both locally and internationally. Maani praised DW’s privileged role and mission that enjoy high professionalism and objectivity. In the same context, GAM and DW have also agreed to exchange information and share experience that mainly focus on multimedia technology broadcasting, to develop ideas and mechanisms that create advanced training opportunities to upgrade their staff’s higher qualifications. Within the framework of DW’s possibilities, certain members of the Hawa Amman Radio will be offered the opportunity to participate in DW-AKADEMIE courses (DW Training Center), especially journalists, radio managers, and technicians. Deutsche Welle, on its part, will start contacting the German institutions based in Jordan to encourage them offer GAM further cooperation opportunities. And it will exchange with GAM the invitations for various public events and conferences organized by both parties in each country, as well as supporting and promoting each other’s activities, events and programs. The signing ceremony witnessed a video presentation about Deutsche Welle, and a tour in GAM library that includes brochures about the Municipality, Deutsche Welle, Goethe Institute, the German-Jordanian University, Theodore Schniller School, and Jubilee Schools. The German Film Festival was also inaugurated, on sidelines of the signing ceremony, at King Hussein Cultural Center. The festival was organized jointly between GAM, Goethe Institute and the Royal Film Commission.
