Under the patronage of Mayor of Amman Engineer Omar Maani, The Third Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival was inaugurated on Dec. 4th in collaboration with MBC Group, and the participation of a group of local and international renowned comedians performing till the 10th of December.
Maani stated previously that "comedy is a significant factor in our modern life and is deemed to be a natural element in any civilized community" indicating the successive successes the Festival achieved since its launch in 2008 has helped place Amman on the touristic map in the region along with promoting the cultural artistic movement.
Maani further stressed the keenness of Amman Municipality to achieving a distinguished leap in the festival in terms of participation and performances carried out by the participants aiming at providing Jordanian artists with necessary experiences and talents to upgrade their comedic performance, in addition to free workshops aimed at elevating the improvisational comedic performance of local and global participants.
Opening night, more than 600 spectators enjoyed the two-hour comedy evening. It included comic sketches inspired from real life and daily social behaviors performed by international comedian Gabriel Igleisias and his friends, Larry Omaha, Edwin Juan, Dean Obiedallah and Aron Khader. They will also perform the second night of the festival on Sunday.
Gabriel and his friends are well-known for their politically and socially inspired improvisation comic sketches based on personal observations and on word play, besides jokes based on the imitation of certain characters.
The Festival includes Arabic nights that will be held on the 6th and 7th of December. The Jordanian comedian Nabeel Sawlha along with other comedians like Mohammad Salem, Moataz Arallah, Ola Roshdy, and Meena Demian will perform on these nights.
On Wednesday the 8th of December, comedy lovers will have the opportunity to attend the special comedy night entitled as "Night of Laughter" which will be performed by a group of renowned international comedians, Dean Edwards, Omar Elba, Sherry Davey, Brian Scott McFaaden and Mo Amer.
Omid Djalili, Dean Edwards, Sherry Davey, Mo Amer in addition to Dean Obeidullah who is an actor and executive producer in the Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival will perform in the closing nights. Obeidullah is well-known for his sarcastic comedy performance (axis of evil) and (the watch list) which became universally known through broadcasting it on www.comedycentral.com where many comedians in the Middle East and in the United States took part in.
