The first phase of the sportive program “Start by Step” will be launched next Saturday; this initiative is organized by Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and patronized by the Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani.
The Festival’s kicks off at 6:00 p.m. from Abu Nseir region up to Abu Nseir’s Sports Club.
City Deputy Manager for Cultural, Social, and Sports Affairs, Eng. Haitham Jweinat, said that this Festival, initiated by the Sports Affairs Department in GAM, is but a beginning of a project meant to cover all GAM’s regions.
Jweinat clarified that holding the Festival aims at promoting the walking sport, transforming the concept of sports at the local community into everyday practices, deep rooting the concept of sharing in uncompetitive sports by raising the awareness of sportive health, and launching programs that target all the civil society segments and GAM’s employees.
Director of Sports Programs Department, Mohammed Nofal, stressed the importance of the Festival in promoting cooperation with public and private sectors’ corporations interested in encouraging sports and combating the prevailing common diseases. He pointed out that the Festival targets all segments of the local community’s participation, in addition to GAM’s employees participation, through coordination with local and foreign partners from sports, youth and security agencies to promote this particular sport and spread it on the local level.
One her part, the Walking Festival’s Coordinator, Eng. Eman Haddadin, invited interested people to participate in this event, pointing out that there will be brochures distributed, tackling the walking sport, its importance, how to practice it properly, and many tips to encourage such and athletic activity and make it a habitual practice.
Haddadin said that walking is the best kind of sports; anyone can enlist it in her/his sportive agenda, especially if they never practiced sports before. She further added that it does not need any special preparations no more than comfortable shoes and cotton cloths.
