Maani Inspects Al Yarmouk “Hay Al ‘Awdah” Residents Implemented Initiatives

The Mayor of Amman, Engineer Omar Maani, affirmed the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) dedication to improving its different services and strengthening the role it plays in developing the local community through supporting social, cultural, and educational initiatives. During a visit yesterday to Hay (Neighborhood) Al ‘Awdah / Jabal Al Jofa in Al Yarmouk region, the Mayor said that the individual citizen is the fundamental building block of the nation which flourishes on the spirit of participation amongst citizens. The tour was attended by the City Deputy Manager for Cultural, Social, and Sports Affairs, Eng. Haitham Jweinat, the Executive Director of Social Services, Ms. Taghreed Fakhouri, and the Head of the region, Eng. Bassam Al Abdallat. In the course of the visit, Eng. Maani was given a detailed brief by Eng. Mohammad Abu ‘Ameera on the developmental and social initiatives being implemented by the residents of the neighborhood. Abu ‘Ameera asserted that the implementation of these schemes in the neighborhood attests to the residents’ keenness for their neighborhood to stand out from other neighborhoods. He also indicated that the residents were collectively implementing a series of educational, social, cultural, environmental, and economic programs that have a positive impact on them. Mayor Maani praised the residents’ efforts in putting their initiatives in practice notwithstanding limited resources, professing that the key to the success of any project or undertaking lies in bolstering the spirit of participation between the residents. He also declared GAM’s readiness to assist the neighborhood residents in finding a suitable location and rehabilitating it as a headquarters for social and voluntary work. It is worth mentioning that Al Yarmouk region is the fifth GAM region, located to the east; Al Madinah region borders it from the north, Al Qwesmeh and Al Nasr from the east, Al Qwesmeh from the south, and Ras Al Ein from the west. Al Yarmouk has a population of 207,866, and covers an area of 5,502 square kilometers.
