Maani Meets Residents of Al Wadi Al Akhdar in Wadi Seer

The Mayor of Amman, Engineer Omar Maani, recently announced the Greater Amman Municipality’s (GAM) commitment to equipping 4 kilometers of Abu Al Sous Street in Wadi Seer district by the end of this year, adding that work is already underway. The street links Abu Al Sous village to Wadi Seer’s industrial area and the housing complexes surrounding the street. During his meeting with the residents of Al Wadi Al Akhdar in Wadi Seer, the Mayor reaffirmed that GAM, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Public Archeology Department were to start the next phase of rehabilitation and renovation works on ‘Eraq Al Ameer castle and the street leading to this historical landmark. The meeting was attended by the Manager of Amman City, Eng. Ammar Gharaibeh, the Head of Wadi Seer’s Local Committee, Yehya Al Saoud, and the Mayor’s Advisor for Districts Affairs, Mahmoud Al Armouti. During the course of the event, another meeting was scheduled for Ramadan, and Eng. Maani called for forming a task force to specify the work priorities for Al Wadi Al Akhdar streets, in terms of expansions and paving, as the location’s rough topography necessitates a large amount of work that will be implemented in phases. Eng. Maani instructed that the street naming and numbering project should include all neighborhoods in Al Wadi Al Akhdar and the main streets, as in the rest of the Capital’s districts, and that the Wadi Seer Complex should gradually be cleared of the maintenance containers workshop and only designated as a bus stop. He added that, before the next scheduled meeting in Ramadan, GAM would establish an IT center and library in the district, and operate Al Wadi Al Akhdar Service Center to receive all transactions and claimants. From another angle, the Mayor responded to the residents’ inquires during the meeting, and promised that the local workforce would continue to operate in Al Wadi Al Akhdar, and that a park and playing field will be established by the beginning of next year, on 4 dunums of land in Hawd Sleihat. He asserted that the Master Plan aims at preserving the green expanses and natural resources of the Capital’s districts. In response to the residents’ request to exclude the agricultural lands outside the regulated regions from previous fines, Eng. Maani promised to address HE the Prime Minister, thereby finding solutions that can help the residents pay off the previous fines according to rules and regulations. It is worth mentioning that GAM provided annual support of JOD 6,000 to the ‘Eraq Al Ameer Ladies Association, as GAM implemented rehabilitation and maintenance works on the building. The Mayor gave orders that a study of an expropriated 10 dunums piece of land be conducted with the purpose of establishing a cemetery, requesting that reports on the suitability of the land be referred to him. Additionally, he issued orders that maintenance work be carried out on all the lighting units in all neighborhoods in Al Wadi Al Akhdar, and on paving works on the square adjacent to the mosque in Al Bassa. On another level, GAM implemented maintenance work on some of the side streets, and lengthened the streets to broaden dangerous corners. From his end, GAM Council member Yehya Al Saoud praised GAM’s efforts to widen the street corners, and open IT centers and parks, calling for speed in implementing the projects that were agreed upon during the Mayor’s previous visit to the district. In the welcome speech he gave at the meeting, Dr. Mousa Al Husami thanked the Mayor’s quick response and readiness to explore the reasonable requests that were presented to GAM, HE the Prime Minister, HE the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and the Public Archeology Department. It is important to note that Al Wadi Al Akhdar encompasses over 16,000 residents, covers an area of 30 square kilometers, and includes ‘Eraq Al Ameer, Al Bassa, and AL Hamidieh.
