Mayor Accompany Press in Touring Amman

Amman Mayor Eng. Omar Maani said on Thursday that several development projects have been completed and will be inaugurated on May 25 to mark the Kingdoms independence day.During almost a full day tour last week in Ammans south and east new districts, he told chief editors and members of the media that Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has accomplished number of projects, which would reflects the capitals beautiful face. The projects included painting of the houses, asphalting of streets, numbering of buildings and naming the streets. Under the first project, GAM has painted 72,000 houses, covering a size of one million square meter, Maani said. He praised the cooperation by the private sector in this regard. GAM has also completed 35 per cent of giving names for the Capitals streets and numbering of buildings, according to the Mayor. The Municipality would complete the project by 2009, he noted Meanwhile, Maani said GAM will float an international tender to design and organize the outdoor advertisements market. The Municipality will takeover 15 per cent of this markets turnover, he added. He noted that the municipality set a plan to build 80 bridges and pedestrian tunnels, noting that 25 of these bridges and tunnels have already been completed. During the visit to Suwefieh district, Maani said that GAM has already licensed a JD 200milion investment project in Sweifyieh district. The project is owned by Taameer Jordan. It will be a land mark within the district as is a commercial building for mixed use, he said. The tour started from Rainbow Street, which has been renovated and is now an attractive tourist destination within the capital, Maani said while walking with the press members in the street. Rainbow Street will become a starting point for bus tours taking tourists to various locations throughout the capital, Maani said. The municipality is planning to start this new service by the beginning of next month, according to Maani. The Project that GAM is going to inaugurates on May 25, to mark the Kingdoms independence day are: 1- Beggars Building: built on a land owned by the Social development Ministry with a cost of JD 20,136. 2- Martyrs Hall Building: it is a mixed-use hall in Zahran district in the Martyrs Park. It has several facilities and covers 250 square meters. 3- Reconstruction of Sahab Cultural Center Building: it is a social, cultural and leisure service center for Sahab residents. It has two floors, the first one covers 186 square meters and has a hall with a capacity of 300 persons with a theater and reception and other facilities. The second floor consists of IT center, library and other facilities. The cost of the project reached JD 420,600 and it was completed within 240 days. 4- Expansion of Citizenship and foreigners Affairs Department in the Interior Ministry: the building has two floors, the ground one covers 1,030 square meters with 36 cabinet for waiting queues with a capacity of 300 persons. The first floor covers 560 square meters and has the offices including the office of the department director. 5- Emergency Building in Tal Al Ali: it covers 2,000 square meters and is the control and monitoring building. It has the emergency rooms of GAM and offices. Its cost reached JD 485,109. 6- Naour Youths Center: it includes closed sports hall on a land plot covers 15 dunum and the halls covers 1,500 square meters while the services covers 220 square meters and it aims to add spot activities to Naour Youth center in all weather conditions. The duration to complete the project is expected to be 150 days and would be ready for opening in the Kingdoms independence day. It is cost was estimated at JD 450,000. 7- Training sport-court in King Abdullah Sports City: it is a legal training stadium covered by Astroturf and was surrounded with the track for other games. The work included also establishing small playground then a full maintenance for the city. The Municipality will open several fixed popular markets and others mobile ones in Marka, Kraiebet Al Souq, Jiza and Juwiedeh to ensure that all consumer products reach the citizens in these districts. Also GAM will lay the foundation stones for 8-parks in Marj El Hamam (15-dunum and cost around JD 250,000), Abu Nseir, Um Emran, Qweismeh, North Marka and Hasmi Samali and Janoubi with a cost to reach JD 1.568. GAM will also renovate several parks in Train valley, Sahab and Yarmouk area with a cost of JD 976,284. the municipality will open 13 public libraries in the independence day as well.
