Mayor Patronizes the Launch of "Captain Abu Raed" Film

Under the patronage of Mayor of Amman, Engineer Nidal Hadid, the Greater Amman Municipality will supervise on Wednesday, April 12, the launch of Jordanian film production "Captain Abu Raed" for Jordanian writer and director Amin Matalqah. The launching ceremony will take place at GAM City Hall, and will feature the participation of local and regional actors, critics and film directors. The new film is a mixture of comedy and drama, being the first international film of its kind that is produced in Jordan. It talks about a retired janitor at the international airport who failed to realize his own dream to travel aboard, following the sudden death of his wife. He thrived in making good friendships with the poor children at the neighborhood, which eventually helped him to revive his dream once again by reciting fictional stories for the children. The film points to the strong relationship between Abu Raed with two of the children who helped him in unveiling social conflicts at the neighborhood. Abu Raed also has a friendship with a young girl, who is originally a pilot, and helps the old man in conquering his fears. Director of the movie, Matalqah said it provides three main objectives; to tell the west that Arabs are ordinary people who have their own aspirations and dreams unlike what the western media often label, to prove for the world that Jordan is hub for film industry in the region, and to pave the way for the new young actors and actresses in Jordan to cross the industry s threshold.
