Mayor Receives Romanian, Russian Envoys

Mayor of Amman, Engineer Nidal Hadid received at his office on Wednesday the Romanian Ambassador to Jordan, Mr. Radu Onofrei, who extended to him the decision by the Romanian government to provide Jordan with a new amount of trees by the end of this year. Hadid expressed jubilation and gratitude for the Romanian kind gesture, and emphasized the need to enhance the bilateral relations between Amman and Bucharest on all aspects, including the municipal ones. Hadid pointed to the planned visit by a group of Jordanian experts and businessmen to Bucharest later this year, whereby a cooperation protocol will be signed between Greater Amman Municipality and the Bucharest Municipality. The protocol will help in paving way for further mutual cooperation on different issues including municipal investments, public traffic, and environment. Hadid also pointed out that the visit by the Jordanian delegation to Bucharest is significant in transferring the Romanian know-how with regards to the municipal affairs and services. More than 90 percent of the Romanian trees that were implanted around Amman were successful and matured rapidly. Romanian President Traian Basescu promised GAM with more trees, to be on the par of three trees for every Romanian woman living in Jordan. Mr. Onofrei expressed his admiration and appreciation for the great efforts that GAM is carrying out around the capital, as part of its national strategy for the coming years. Onofrei also praised GAM sincere support to the cultural and art events in Amman. Later on the day, Hadid also received the Russian Ambassador to Jordan, Alexander Kalugin who expressed his satisfaction over the strong relations that link Amman and Moscow. He said that these relations will help in enhancing bilateral investments in tourism, culture and sports. Hadid briefed Kalugin about the GAM strategy for 2005-2009 and its objectives. He also presented the mission that GAM is working on to enhance the quality of its services, the public traffic and environment in the capital. Mr. Kalugin expressed his gladness in seeing Amman has the proper growth and development on all aspects, and he congratulated GAM for being active on that regard.
