Mayor of Amman Meets Abu Nseir Residents

Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, announced that the Greater Amman Municipality will rehabilitate and maintain Al-Hussein Garden in Abu Nseir region, including the renovation of its playgrounds. The garden is located on an area of 32 dunums, as GAM is setting up plans to develop engineering structures in the unused 12 dunums of the garden’s area. Maanis has recently visited and toured Abu Nseir, during which he called for the demarcation of boundaries for the regions of Abu Nseir, Jubeiha, and Shafa Badran, where the main streets (instead of pieces of lands) in these regions act as borderlines. Such step, according to him, should be enacted in cooperation with the local committees in these regions, in a way to ensure better services for the citizens. The Mayor also decided to restore the woodland in Al-Basalah neighborhood, close to the schools, by building benches, pavements and sanitary facilities in the area. In addition to that, he called for expanding the 700 meter street that goes alongside Al-Urdun Street, and setting up gabions to avert landslides. Engineer Maani also called for building pavements for Balaṭ Al-Shuhada’ (Battle of Poitiers) Street and studying the possibility to convert the junction to a roundabout. Accompanying the Mayor on his tour were member of the Lower House of the Parliament Mr. Ahmed Al-Adwan, Director of Amman City Ammar Gharaibeh, Head of the Local Committee of Abu Nseir Ziad Awamleh, Member of the Municipal Council Nisreen Najdawi, and the Mayor’s Advisor for Regional Affairs Mahmoud Al-Armouti. During his tour, Maani was briefed on the latest developments regarding the furnishing of the sports hall in Abu Nseir Club by GAM cadres, and building its ceiling at a cost of JD50000. He pointed out to GAM’s initiative to utilize and re-develop the unused four boiler rooms in Abu Nseir Housing Complex, as an experimental model of the municipal services extended to the local community. The rooms are expected to be transformed into cultural and heritage kiosks. The Mayor unveiled GAM’s plan to develop Al-Jubeiha Entertainment City, in partnership with one of the investors, to replace the old games there with new ones, provided that enough car parks be set up to absorb 300-400 vehicles. Maani, meanwhile, announced that GAM is planning to set up a traffic garden in Abu Nseir, and a new sports center for the special needs citizens, in collaboration with the relevant institutions. He also disclosed the start of restoring the cemetery in Shafa Badran, dedicated for the regions of North Amman. On his part, Director of Amman City, Ammar Gharaibeh said that the public transport services will witness fundamental development in the coming few years, pointing out to GAM’s tender to furnish the main street in Abu Nseir region with up-to-date 700 sunshades on the bus major lanes. Maani watched a TV presentation about the participation of 1000 students, together with members of the local community, in the annual voluntary campaigns prepared by GAM to enhance the region’s landscape and protect its environment. The Mayor praised the voluntary campaigns organized by the local community in Abu Nseir, distinguishing it from other regions in the Capital, for being sincere in personifying exemplary citizenship and loyalty. During the meeting, attended by the City Manager’s deputies and department directors, Engineer Maani was also briefed on the maintenance and decoration workshop of Abu Nseir region, which was established 18 months ago upon Maani’s approval. The workshop conducts many types of work, including mending and producing rockery stones and laminate-flooring for stairs, within the region’s available resources. Head of the Local Committee in Abu Nseir, Ziad Awamleh said that most of the demands presented by the residents in previous meetings with the Mayor have been met by GAM, which enhances the citizen’s trust in such meetings, sensing the importance of what is raised during such meetings, especially that these demands are incorporated in GAM’s agenda. It is worth noting that Abu Nseir region is situated on an area of 7 square kilometers, and populates around 70000 – 100000 citizens. It comprises the districts of Al-Mahaba, Al-Amanah, Al-Basalah, Al-Farouq, Al-Saadah, Al-Diya, and Al-Karamah.
