In line with the ongoing urban revitalization process Amman is undergoing nowadays, the Mayor of Amman, Engineer Omar Maani, recently undertook a number of field trips and held several meetings in Al Muqablain region. The Mayor issued instructions to establish a roundabout on the intersection of Mohammad Al Durra Street and Bashar Bin Bara’a Street in the Region, in addition to instructions to expand main streets, giving a green light for a study to establish a pedestrian bridge on Al Quds Street, connecting the streets of eastern and central Marj Al Hamam.
As part of his scheduled periodic meetings, Eng. Maani made a field trip today to the various regions of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), during which he decided to install street lights in Jamal Badran Street, in addition to constructing pavements and median islands. The Mayor also decided to research the execution of service streets on Al Hurriyah Street, and opening side streets from Al Quds Street, in addition to pavement works and fences on Al Sakhra Al Musharafeh and Al Quds Streets.
Eng. Maani, accompanied by the President of the Region’s Local Committee, Ahmed Al Mleify, the Mayor’s Advisor for Regional Affairs, Mahmoud Al-Armouti, Manager of Amman City, Engineer Ammar Gharaibeh, the City Manager’s deputies, and the Greater Amman Municipality’s executive directors, gave directions to install rubber speed bumps on the entrances to Al Hurriyah roundabout as soon as they are supplied, and to continue opening Al Ameera Maqbouleh and Al Bnayat to link Al Bnayat and Al Alkumieh neighborhoods.
During his inspection of urban spaces in the region, Mayor Maani resolved to rehabilitate and fence the playing field in Yaqoub Al Salti Park, and to establish a medical unit and two entrances in Queen Nour’s Forest which spreads across an area of 35 dunum, as well as lighting and fencing the Forest. He also gave instructions to rehabilitate Al Tafawuq Park which is 8 dunum in area space and Al Hurriyah Park by implementing medical units and fencing works.
Eng. Omar Maani was brought up to date on the progress of work on King Abdullah the Second Parks in Al Muqablain, as the first phase of the project will be completed during the next six months. This phase includes fences and water tanks for collecting rainwater – 10,500 cubic meter tanks for agricultural purposes, and 1200 cubic meter tanks for drinking water.
Mayor Maani also visited the old tobacco (Al Dukhan) company buildings in Al Muqablain region, which cover an area of 42 dunum and were appropriated from the Company by the Greater Amman Municipality. The Mayor gave instructions for the site to be cleared of scrap so it can be utilized by the Municipality.
Keeping abreast with the residents’ needs and demands, Mayor Maani met with the residents of the region in the presence of MP, Dr. Khalaf Al Raqad, and the Greater Amman Municipality Council member, Abd Al Ra’ouf Al Bassal. During this meeting, the Mayor assured residents that the Municipality will commence numbering and naming the streets in Al Muqablain region in the near future, in addition to the Municipality’s dedication to establishing modern and ideal buildings in its regions, in accordance with a timetable to offer exceptional services to citizens.
Eng. Maani indicated that, by the end of this year, the region will be rehabilitated to accommodate the various brick and stone-cutting workshops which have contributed to environmental pollution in Amman, as a comprehensive study is underway by the Municipality to find a new location.
In another meeting, held at Petra University, Eng. Maani announced the Municipality’s decision to establish two IT centers in the Region. He also emphasized the Municipality’s commitment to raising the standard of services in Al Bnayat neighborhood and all neighborhoods in the region. The Mayor indicated that all comments, demands, suggestions, and ideas raised at the respective encounters and relating to the different services provided by the Municipality would undergo intensive study according to priority and availability of resources.
The Executive Director of Engineering, Eng. Ibraheem Hashem, and the Director of the Studies and Designs Department, Eng. Neameh Qatnany, gave a presentation on the King Abdullah the Second Parks which cover an area of 505 dunum. They pointed out that the Parks are in a strategic location in the south east part of Amman, surrounded by the new regions which were included within the Municipality boundaries in 2007 and which feature high population density. It is thus expected that the Parks will serve over one million citizens.
It is worth noting that Al Muqablain region includes the following neighborhoods: Umm Qseir, Al Husniyeh, Al Bnayat Al Janiuby, Al Bnayat Al Shamaly, Al Hurriyah, Al Sahabah, and Al Karameh.
