Preparing Blueprints and Coordination Designs of Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II Intersection on the Airport Road

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has finalized the blueprints and coordination designs of Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II Intersection on the Airport Road, with an action plan to execute coordination works of the location to be implemented in four phases, simultaneously with the completion of the Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II Intersection Project towards the end of the current year. Such an intersection is with exceptional importance owing to its location that constitutes one of the main entrances to the city of Amman. Executive Director of Engineering at GAM, Engineer Ibraheem Hashem anticipates that the project may commence immediately after ‘Eid Al Adha holiday, pointing out that the coordination works aim at adding an esthetic touch to the project, along with the improvement of the environment through controlling car gas emissions, let alone increasing the green spaces. He stressed that most of the designs focused on increasing the green spaces and exploiting most of the spaces of the loops, median islands, and the traffic triangles in planting trees and plants that help in minimizing pollution , improving the environment, and maintaining the plant fabric of the location by using the same types of plants planted on the sides of the Airport Road. Local plants that stand draught, resist insects and viruses, and require small amounts of water shall be planted, in addition to preserving the water resources via drip irrigation systems Plants shall be planted in an engineering method to complement the elements of the project, namely vertical pine trees on the sides of the bridge and “ Zamzareeq” on the entrances of the intersection . Rockery walls overlapping with refined stonewalls shall be erected to demonstrate the marriage of the natural environment with the urban environment, in addition to creating an urban space to the entrance to the city from the southern side. Engineer Hashem unveiled that GAM will plant 400 vertical cypress trees with 5 meters height, 350 trees with 3 meters height, 650 Kuraish pine trees with 2.5 to 3 meters height, 120 Roman unfruitful olive trees, 250 “Zamzareeq” trees with 2 meters height, 600 blue Jasmine plants, and 4000 white dwarfed “dufla” plants. GAM is to construct some retaining walls with various heights, and in more than one side to combat drifting and erosion of the soil subject to heavy water fall, in addition to building stone chains from basalt with 1.20 meters heights, and Ajloun refined stone walls with .40 meters height meshing with the stone chains. GAM shall also construct stone domes 4meters diameter and 0.85 meters height, all to draw a distinguished artistic landmark. According to Engineer Hashem, electromechanical work shall include an integrated irrigation network for the location (ground reservoirs, pumps, and other main and supplementary tools). Additionally, there will be lighting works to highlight the beauty of the location and it elements. The Airport Road is considered the primary link to connect the southern region with the northern region of the Kingdom. Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II street also constitutes the main tribute to Abdoun Corridor, which, along with the other streets of the region, formulates an important network with ample capacity to absorb the expected traffic density, as estimated by the comprehensive metropolitan studies of the city of Amman, including the high rising towers and the futuristic projects. The roads network referred to in the above shall provide alternative routes that are bound to contribute to alleviating the pressure off the traffic congested areas, namely the Eighth Circle, the Seventh Circle, and Zahran street . The network shall also provide exit and entry alternatives from and to downtown Amman, thus creating a qualitative and quantitative leap in the infrastructure, and road network services to logically keep pace with the aspirations, and meet, at the same time, the needs and requirements
