The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Thursday said it will announce several developmental projects in its new areas, particularly, Marj Al Hamam, Naour and Um Al Basateen, following the municipal elections listed for 31 July.
The municipality has started beautification projects for these areas, following its decision to add them among its districts.
“ GAM will be able to serve these districts in two orders, organising the areas and maintain the green spaces,” Amman Mayor Omar Maani said during a visit to the areas on Thursday.
“A huge initiative in connection to development projects in these areas, will be announced following the municipal elections,” Maani said, without giving further details on the projects.
Meanwhile, GAM will call for several meetings with the residents of these areas to share with them ideas, seeking their suggestions, the mayor indicated.
Among its projects, GAM will establish 2 parks in each area, in addition to information technology centers, Maani added.
“The municipality also has a vision to make central cemeteries in the capital rather than various ones in different locations,” the mayor said.
during his tour in the areas, Maani visited the real estate projects, “Green Land”. The project consists of 580 villas of 185-1169 square meters, a commercial center of 80,000 square meters in addition to 40,000 square meters for parks and green areas.
The Naour district covers 64 square kilometers, with 60,000 inhabitants living there. The Um Al Basateen and Hisban both comprise 55 square kilometers with 22,000 citizens, Marj Al Hamam covers 45,000 square kilometers with 70,000 inhabitants.
GAM now covers an area of almost 1,700 square kilometers after the addition of six districts within its borders, compared to 668 square kilometers previously.
The municipality included six new areas and districts under its jurisdiction since the end of last year.
Jiza, Sahab and Mwaqqar were added to Amman last year, while Marj Al Hamam, Naour, Um Al Basateen and Hisban came under GAM authority on April this year.
