27-2-2024 Jamila khair - The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan, in collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality, organised a tree-planting ceremony at Al-Wahda Park, Jandawil neighbourhood, In celebration of Sri Lanka's 76th Independence Day with the attendance of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan.
The ceremony was attended by the member of GAM Council for Wadi Al-Seer district, Muhammad Mhairat, the director of Wadi Al-Seer district, Bilal Freihat, and a number of concerned officials at the Embassy of the Republic of Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan ambassador Priyangika Wijegunasekara expressed her appreciation to Amman Mayor, Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, for his cooperation with the embassy’s initiatives, including planting olive trees, stressing that these trees will grow as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
The ambassador said that Sri Lanka has gained independence on February 4, 1948, and on this occasion the Embassy planted 15 olive trees in the park, symbolising the growing friendship and cooperation between Jordan and Sri Lanka.
The ambassador also pointed out the role of tree planting in mitigating climate change effects and preserving biodiversity.
