Engineer Hatem Ababneh, director of the Natural Gas Company, stated that the Natural Gas Factory has produced over 35,000 megawatt since its launching in June 2000.
In a special tour organized for media representatives, Ababneh added the factory has treated some 30,000 tons of wastes in the area. The tour was organized by Greater Amman Municipalitys Media Center, and aimed at highlighting the NGS development and activities.
The factory is a joined work between GAM and Electricity Distribution Company, and is expanding its capacity to produce 3.5 or 5 megawatt per hour by the beginning of 2006. It currently produces 1 megawatt an hour. It is worth mentioning that every megawatt serves 1500 housing units.
Ababneh pointed that the factory signed an agreement with a consortium of local and German companies to expand its capacity and embrace the Russeifeh Dump, which sets on an area of 700 dunums. The factory digs about 84 wells to take up the natural gas at Russeifeh Dump. There are already 12 wells owned by GAM for the same purpose.
Ababneh said that internal burning unit at the factory receives some 600 cubic meters of natural gas per hour, where 60 percent of the gas is Methane and 40 percent is carbon dioxide. The unit receives 60 tons of wastes made by hotels and restaurants to be burned in environment-friendly means, while the unit also gets 13 million tons of dumped waste from Russiefeh.
The factory, Ababneh added, serves the national economy by generating about 18 percent of revenues, and pointed that it made JD 300,000 in annual profits last year, while preserving some 14,000 tons of diesel a year, and provides more than 30,000 jobs for Jordanians.
