Amman Summer Festival Draws Attention

Mr. Khalid Burqan, assistant Mayor of Amman for Investment Affairs, called on Jordanians to attend the Amman Summer Festival 2006, which runs until August 25. Burqan said that citizens are promised with much times of fun and entertainment that suit all ages and different segments of the community. Burqan was speaking during a press meeting held at the Greater Amman Municipality Council Hall, and organized jointly with the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB). Many musical troupes and plays will perform during the festival, together with traditional activities and performances. Burqan praised the cooperation between GAM, JTB, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Ministry of Culture, and the administrative committee of Jerash Festival. He said that the Jerash committee saved for Amman some of the pleasing cultural events that will take place in the capital during the Jerash festival. Amman Summer Festival also helps in vibrating the commercial activity in the capital, and sponsors the local economy, since many of the activities will take place in main commercial areas around Amman, including Swefiyeh and the downtown area. Sites like the Roman Amphitheater, King Hussein Cultural Center, and Prince Rashid Street will be closed during the late night hours. Meanwhile, Luay Farraj, representative of the JTB, highly regarded the coordination between its institution and GAM which helped in thriving the summer season broadly. Farraj said that such coordination serves the rising influx of foreign tourists and visitors who come to the Kingdom at this time of the year. Farraj said tourists will feel the difference this year in terms of entry procedures and facilities that will provide them more convenience and safety, especially at the Queen Alia International Airport. Burqan, on the other hand, said that a number of kiosks will be leased for the concerned parties to serve visitors of the festival. He said that most of the activities in the festival will be free-of-charge, except these take place at the Roman Amphitheater and the King Hussein Cultural Center.
