Districts Directorate:
The general objective of the Directorate:
The Districts Directorate provides multiple municipal services in accordance with Greater Amman Municipality plans and the Directorate's functions. These services include issuing of building licenses, title deeds, land organizational charts, professional and health licenses, building construction monitoring, and the reduction of health-related hazards through integrated management and health monitoring and control of solid waste within the boundaries of the District, in accordance with the laws, regulations and instructions of Greater Amman Municipality, and it has the following Directors:
- Amman Municipality Districts (22 areas).
- Reconstruction monitoring.
- City Services Director.
- Unregulated Sale Control Director.
- Complex Management Unit.
Functions of the Directorate:
- Issue building licenses, construction licenses and title deeds.
- Monitor the construction of buildings of all kinds within the boundaries of the District according to the applied law and regulations in force and the instructions of Greater Amman Municipality, and take legal action thereon.
- Issue and renew professional and health licenses.
- Carry out cleaning work on streets, squares and public facilities, provide them with appropriate containers, and transfer waste to designated containers.
- Register and cancel lease contracts.
- Manage all activities of control and inspection of buildings and reconstruction and monitor violations of the random dumping of debris.
- Monitor and follow up the construction of buildings in accordance with construction licenses and prevent unauthorized construction.
- Ensure the preservation of the architectural heritage of the city of Amman against any modifications contrary to the approved GAM procedures.
- Supervise the issuance of building permits and the necessary excavation permits, and follow up on the dumping of debris in controlled landfills.
- Monitor the work of contractors (infrastructure services contractors) and their compliance with work permits issued by the competent departments of Greater Amman Municipality, in coordination and cooperation with the Follow-up and Coordination Department.
- Take all necessary precautions and actions to preserve public health, protect the environment, prevent disease outbreaks and reduce health hazards, in accordance with public safety laws, regulations and instructions. •
- Prepare a study of the area's needs (roads, sidewalks, staircases, retaining walls, gardens) and other municipal services to prepare the annual operational plans for the area and follow up its implementation with the concerned departments.
- Sustain the operation of the main rainwater discharge lines and culverts with high efficiency.
- Coordinate with the Municipality's stakeholders on the implementation of major projects within the area's boundaries.
- Support external parties and the areas with environmental campaigns.
- Follow up on compliance with public safety standards for workers in the field.
Directorate of Solid Waste Treatment and Management:
Functions of the Directorate of Solid Waste Treatment and Management:
- Temporary storage (containers), collect and transport solid waste from areas.
- Manage and treat waste through waste reception, sorting, distribution, landfilling, and recycling.
- Manage the transfer station and the transfer and discharge of waste to Al Ghabawi landfill.
- Undertake recovery and recycling activities, including energy recovery, using any appropriate treatment method, e.g. mechanical biological treatment (MBT)
- Manage the landfill site and sanitary waste landfill operations.
- Manage landfill gas emissions in such a way that waste is incinerated, energy is produced, and carbon emissions are mitigated.
Directorate of Environmental Studies and Projects:
It has the following Directors:
- Director of Environmental Studies.
- Director of Environmental Projects.
The Directorate has the following main functions:
- Follow up on environmental projects, study financial costs and submit completion reports in this regard.
- Prepare environmental studies and reports on improving the environmental situation in Amman.
- Provide environmental consultations at the internal and external levels.
- Raise awareness, educate and train the local community and different institutions in the areas of the environment.
